I deleted mine within a week of him purchasing it. Seriously
considering doing the same to Facebook (again). Took a three year
hiatus from it a few years ago...created another account about the time that I shut down Twitter. Should have left well enough alone. The
break was the best thing for me. :)

I'm really enjoying the fediverse - specifically, mastodon. It reminds
me of the old identi.ca days (the authors of it and one of the authors
of ActivityPub were old BBS callers/sysop friends of mine, Ratsnatcher
and Mr. Bad... ) Right now, it's mostly political-free, ad-free, mostly
techie people, artists and writers in my feed. You can start your own
server or find a server with a shared interest as a basis.

I'm also on Facebook, but the problem I'm having lately is that my feed
is 100% politics right now from both sides of the political spectrum.
I've snoozed almost 75% of my friends for a month, and it's still politics-heavy.

My Facebook feed is mostly high-school friends who got in early and
didn't experiment with other social networks. I suppose I'm the edge
case, approaching 60 and still experimenting with social networks...

There were a couple others I had used before Facebook - MySpace was one of them. I also used LiveJournal. My friends I had on both of those all moved to Facebook though.

I used all those, along with Orkut, Tribe.net, Friendster, and others that I've forgotten about. The rest of my high school friends weren't as techy and didn't go anywhere except Facebook.
